Urban Light Surveyors is an independent firm of highly experienced and capable chartered surveyors, architects and consultants specialising in rights to light, daylight and sunlight design, solar glare and light pollution matters.

Director
A Chartered Surveyor, Ian has a wealth of industry experience having specialised in light related matters for over 41 years.
He has held several top posts over his long career, including Head of Unit / Principal at Avison Young (previously GVA Schatunowski Brooks).
Ian was involved in the landmark "Bankside Yards" & "Tamares" Rights of Light cases and is regularly called as expert for planning inquiries and litigation.
He was consulted by the Law Commission when preparing their proposed reforms to Rights of Light practice as part of the "Association of Light Practitioners" group of industry leaders.
In his spare time he loves sport and spending time with friends and family, splitting his time between South-Western France and Suffolk.
Director
Greg has over 24 years industry experience, having training / practised in architecture before specialising in light related matters.
He has held senior positions at Deloitte Real Estate (previously Drivers Jonas) and Avison Young (previously GVA Schatunowski Brooks) and was involved in the landmark "Bankside Yards" & "Heaney" Rights of Light cases.
He is a RICS Accredited Expert Witness, member of the CIBSE Daylight Group and maintains close links with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) on all things daylight related, including consulting on the recently updated national Daylight and Sunlight Guidance.
He is also a member of the Good Homes Alliance steering group and authored the Rights of Light section in the recent BCO "Guide to Specification".
He mainly spends his spare time with family, preferably in nature on hikes, cycling or in/on/beside water but frequently at table 8 in Nando's. He volunteers with local community groups and enjoys most sports, supporting Brentford FC.
Director
Adrian has been involved with the ever evolving and complex analysis of light for over 34 years, both as senior technician and managing large CAD teams, whilst ensuring deadlines are hit and high quality is maintained.
He maintains close links to other technical experts and BRE/CIBSE.
Adrian has undertaken many complex lighting assessments, from large scale master planning scenarios to complex urban environments.
He is well versed in undertaking intricate, highly accurate rights of light analyses, BREEAM, WELL and LEED lighting simulations, CBDM (Climate Based Daylight Modelling) and
BRE (Building Research Establishment) analysis on thousands of projects.
His level of technical knowledge and capability is very rare in the industry and his work has featured in countless planning appeals, inquiries and litigation/ court hearings, including the "Bankside Yards" case.
In his spare time he enjoys skiiing, travel and watching F1.
Director
A Chartered Architect, Ian has over 40 years industry experience as both lead Architect and main Board Director at a large, successful Central London Architecture and Town Planning practice.
Ian has broad industry knowledge from his experience across a large variety of project types and in all aspects of financial and business management.
Ian is also a consultant to Rolfe Judd Architecture & Planning and holds various voluntary positions.
Ian is an excellent, approachable problem solver, strategist and communicator.
In his spare time he enjoys walking, skiing, photography and travel.
